It is, however, strongly recommended that the instructions should be followed accurately to avoid running into problems. This will save users time and money that would if not be spent on taking . A firewall is required to protect your wireless connection from the unauthorized access or users. Firewall filters the incoming traffic to your computer and blocks unwanted access that may want to take undue advantage of your wireless connection. However, this firewall can sometimes prevents a user from accessing certain features like port forwarding, game or web hosting etc. This essentially requires that users turn off their firewall feature so as to access these features without interruption. The below mentioned guide will walk you through the steps to perform the desired task on your own and certainly without the help of Linksys technical support. Launch your web browser namely Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox (whichever you have). Type -192.168.1.1' (without quotes and as is) in the address bar and hit the Enter key on the keyboard. You will be required to make a wired connection using the Ethernet cable to your router to login to the router's interface. This will bring up the router's login screen and prompt for username and password business firewalls. Enter the credentials and hit Enter again to proceed to the configuration page. If you never changed these credentials, then it must be the information that originally came with the router docs. Check your manual etc. to find out them. If you changed the username and password, then enter the new ones. When the Linksys Setup screen comes up, click on the Security tab. It will show the status of your firewall protection as Enabled. Click to select the radio button next to Disable and then click on the Save Settings button. Review and/or modify other settings if you want and exit the router interface. One thing has to be kept in mind that the settings for disabling firewall may differ among Linksys router versions. Therefore, check your router manual\docs. to ensure that you head into the right settings to make changes. You can also do port forwarding to bypass the firewall rules. First know what your IP (internet protocol) is as it will be required to do the port forwarding. Click on the Start menu and navigate to Command Prompt network security. If you are unable to see the Command Prompt program, the click on Start and navigate to Run. Type -cmd' (without quotes and as is) in the blank field and then click on the OK button. This will bring up the Command Prompt screen. Type -ipconfig' and hit Enter. This will bring up all the details related to IP address, subnet mask, domain etc. Note down of all this information on a piece of paper as it would be required to forward the port to. Login to your router (in the same abovementioned fashion) and navigate to the Setup page. Highlight the Applications and Gaming tab. Click on the Port Range Forward option. Enter all the information in the relevant fields, select TCP or UDP under the Protocol tab. When done, review the information and click on the Save Settings button.
